The Ritz-Carlton, Berlin

Rebranding the Ritz-Carlton Berlin while rethinking Art Deco

For the Berlin location of the famed luxury hotel brand Ritz-Carlton, we were asked to redesign five of their interior spaces: the lounge, the piano bar, the Cigar Club, the concept cocktail bar and POTS, a high-end restaurant helmed by Michelin star chef Dieter Müller.

Our primary design inspirations were the Art Deco interior of the Berlin Ritz and the historical background of Potsdamer Platz, where the hotel is located. We worked closely with the Ritz-Carlton team to envision distinct but complementary branding for each space, envisioning the Roaring Twenties with a modern twist.

The Curtain Club is an intimate and classy piano bar with chic leather sofas and Art Deco styling. We created an identity that mirrors the space’s angles and shapes, down to a clean, elegant logo that would make Erté proud.

Full of aromas and fantasies, Fragrances combines the world of perfumes with the art of cocktails in a unique bar concept unlike any other in the world. Our identity takes influence from the multiple edges and geometric shapes of the space and from the twinkling crystal of both cocktail glasses and perfume bottles – a golden diamond icon is versatile while suggesting luxury and contemporary cool.

The circular logo of The Lounge is inspired by the space’s modernist light fixture as well as the different roles this inviting space plays throughout the day, as it transitions from breakfast nook to afternoon tea room to relaxed cocktail bar. A subtle blue hue reflects the Lounge’s adaptability and relaxing palette.

The identity for the Cigar Club is inspired by the sharpness and masculinity of the room. Taking black as the main colour and playing with a ‘tone-on-tone’ approach, we create a bold and yet sleek statement. An alluringly simple logo suggests a gentlemen’s speakeasy of the Prohibition era.

Working closely with the Ritz-Carlton, we named and designed the brand identity for POTS, their new experimental high-end restaurant helmed by Dieter Müller. The restaurant features an innovative take on authentic German staples. The identity aims to visualise the experience with a clean, sleek typeface and a playful signature, which extends to menus and coasters that echo the restaurant’s chrome accents.
